This two-week course covers woodworking ‘essentials’ including tool sharpening, measuring, marking and cutting a variety of joints.

The vision for this two-week course is to introduce students to a broad range of furniture making skills and experiences in a professional workshop. It has been developed for those looking for an in depth introduction to woodworking skills or to hone existing skills and for some has been a stepping stone to our six-month Professional Course. Training is delivered in small groups by demonstration with the opportunity to practice skills through project work. Working safely and professionally is crucial from the very start and will be reinforced consistently.
Fundamental hand skill training includes sharpening and preparation of tools, hand-planing, joint cutting and assembly.
Power tools including routers, sanders and biscuit/domino jointers are used in the production of simple projects.
An introduction to woodworking machinery includes bandsaw, panel saw, pillar-drill and disc-sander.
‘In all honesty, I have to say that the quality of teaching that you and Phil have given us throughout the course has been in my humble opinion, second to none. I have come away with a sense of achievement that I never really had with any other course and I have a sense that I am perhaps on the right path.’ Adrian Ford
