Introduction to furniture making

The vision for this programme is to introduce participants to a range of furniture making skills and experiences in a professional workshop. Essential health and safety training is delivered in three specific areas, hand tools, power tools and woodworking machinery. Training will be delivered in small groups by demonstration with the opportunity to practice skills through project work. Working safely and professionally is crucial from the very start and will be reinforced consistently.

Fundamental hand skill training includes sharpening and preparation of tools, hand-planing, joint cutting and assembly.

Power tools including routers, sanders and biscuit/domino jointers will be used in the production of simple projects.

An introduction to Wood Machinery will include the following machines, bandsaw, panel saw, pillar-drill and disc-sander.

We have designed this programme for those looking for an in depth introduction to woodworking skills or to hone existing skills and as the perfect stepping stone to our 6 month professional course.
