Wood Machine Training

9.00am to 4.30pm24th-28th June and 1st-5th July

This stand-alone two-week course has been designed to give you an introduction to woodworking machinery in our very well equipped training workshop. The project is a pair of Scandinavian trestles covering the journey from selecting the timber all the way through to applying a finish. This is a really versatile project that can be used as the base for a dining table/desk in your home or as a functional tool in a workshop.

We will cover the essential health and safety training as well as guiding participants in how to get the best out of the machines to achieve high quality results.

Machines covered include;
Cross Cut and Rip Saws for breaking down large planks of timber.
Surface and Thickness Planers for accurate timber preparation.
Panel Saw and Bandsaw for dimensioning, shaping and jointing.

The training will begin with an introduction to each machine, we will explain dangers and limitations, main causes of accidents and safe working practice. As you work through the project we will provide direct supervision and feedback through observation.

We will also be working with hand and power tools to create mortice and tenon joints and to shape/profile components.

This course is only available for those aged 18+. It is suitable for those with some previous experience of woodworking, however you do not need to have any experience using woodworking machinery.
